Programs
The ARC of Essex County provides a rich and varied assortment of recreation opportunities.
Community Recreation Program
The Community Recreation Program provides frequent and varied opportunities for recreation and entertainment. Typical activities include ball games, dinners,
bowling (Belleville), cooking classes, aerobics, music festivals, movies, theater, cards and bingo.
Events are typically scheduled four times per week, year-round. Participants are dropped off and picked up at two pick-up points, one in Maplewood and the other in Bloomfield. Quarterly calendars with event details are available by mail or on our

page.

After-School Recreation
The After-School Recreation Program meets five days per week at the ARC
Livingston Community Resource Center and the Maplewood Community
Resource Center from 2:45 p.m. until 5:45 p.m. The program was established to meet the needs of parents who were seeking appropriate after-school care for their children with developmental disabilities.
The program serves as a recreational opportunity for the children. The daily schedule includes free play, structured play and an organized group activity such as a cooking lesson or an arts and crafts project. Play activities concentrate on gross and fine motor skills, as well as socialization.
Other considerations
• Staff-to-children ratio is 1:3.
• Transportation to the center is
always provided by school districts; pick-up is by parents.
• Snacks are provided.
• Fees are based on the number of days attending each week.

Saturday Drop-Off Program
Our Saturday Drop-Off Program, for children, teens and adults, operates
three Saturdays a month. Each session lasts five hours. This recreational program includes games, puzzles, field trips, lunch and snack, videos and individual and group activities.
Parents must provide their own transportation.
