Down Syndrome Support
Super Saturdays
Sponsored by The ARC of Essex County, Super Saturdays is a new playgroup
for children with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities.
The program meets the first and third Saturday of every month from 9:30
to 11:30 and invites siblings. Parents remain on premise to help
facilitate positive interactions among the children. The focus of
this group is to provide social opportunities for children with Down
syndrome and other developmental disabilities and their families. Call

Down Syndrome Parent To Parent
This group is comprised of parents who have a child with Down syndrome
and professionals who work closely with them. A member will visit in
the hospital/home and offer the family an information packet containing
the book, Babies with Down Syndrome, as well as other resources
including, bibliography listings, along with medical and developmental
information. Down Syndrome Parent to Parent is a free service of The

The Arc of Essex Stepping Stones
Stepping Stones is an Early Intervention Program and Private School for
the Disabled for children birth to ten years of age with Down syndrome
and other developmental disabilities. Stepping Stones I & II (birth to
3 yrs.) provides a comprehensive developmental program utilizing a
center-based model. Within sessions, groups are facilitated by
physical, occupational and speech therapists that primarily provide
information on development as well as teach parents specific techniques

The Private School for the Disabled serves children three through ten
years of age and is licensed by the New Jersey Department of Education.
Through a multi sensory approach and the utilization of integrated
programs including feeding, total communication, toilet training and
sensory integration, a foundation of skills is developed so that the
children may successfully transition into community settings. Call the

A parent support group meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 to 11:30
a.m. while Early Intervention is in session. Parents have the
opportunity to discuss issues of importance to families with young
children. Guest speakers are invited to present on issues of parental
concern to include, medical, developmental, behavioral and social.
Parents share ideas on parenting, dealing with family members, friends
and the community. There is babysitting available for siblings of Early
Intervention children. If you are interested in joining us for an
evening support group this can also be arranged.
